Ridente ed industriosa cittadina, situata lungo la strada della Vallata ai piedi delle Prealpi Bellunesi, tra colline e vigneti. Essa deve il suo nome alla "follatura" della lana, attuata nella zona probabilmente sin dall'epoca preromana. La zona ebbe uno sviluppo notevole dopo il Mille, ad opera di un gruppo di monaci cistercensi che bonificarono la valle paludosa e fondarono la celebre Abbazia, meta di pellegrinaggi sin dall'antichità. Il Santuario (Basilica) fu eretto nel XIV secolo. E' in stile romano - gotico. Notevoli anche l'originale torre campanaria e l'adiacente suggestivo chiostro romanico.
Charming and industrious town lying on the Vallata Road, among vineyards
and hills at the foot of the Bellunesi Prealps. The name Follina comes
from the term "follatura", that indicates a technique for manufacturing
wool, practiced in Follina since the pre-Roman period.
The area had a remarkable development after year 1000, when a group of
Cistercian monks reclaimed the marshy valley They also founded the
famous Abbey, which has been a pilgrims destination since ancient times.
The Sanctuary (Basilica) was erected during the 14th century in
roman-gothic style.
The particular bell-tower and the nearby Romanesque cloister are also
remarkably charming.
