Art and History to Cappella Maggiore

According to some toponymic hypotheses, Cappella Maggiore’s origins date back to the 4th-5th century (Roman age). Yet, some argue that it was find during the Longobard period because of the defensive fortifications founded in Anzano’s hills.

After 568, these lands entered Ceneda’s county. During the 9th century, the region was devastated by Hungarian invasions. After the ravages, Ceneda was born as a politic automous entity.

In 1154 this territory passed under Da Camino’s jurisdictions. When Rizzardo 6th, the last heir of this family died, in 1335, the feud was transfered under Venetian rule.

It was then governed by French and Austrian untill  it finally became part of Italy in 1866.
